Dr Hilary Byrne Awarded Best Scholar In Training Prize

Dr Hilary Byrne, a Sydney Vital researcher, was recently awarded the Best Scholar in Training Presentation prize at the Association for Radiation Research annual meeting.

The conference, held at Queen’s University Belfast, Northern Ireland, attracted around 100 delegates in the radiation research field covering topics ranging from radiation chemistry and DNA damage repair to high LET particle therapy and ‘Space Brain’ (looking at the implications of space radiation on the brain with relevance to manned missions to Mars).

Dr Byrne is an early career researcher at the University of Sydney and recipient of the 2018 Sydney Vital Flagship 3 Fellowship in Nanotechnology. She presented her current research on a pre-clinical investigation of the use of nanoparticles to enhance radiotherapy treatment at the Australian MRI-linac facility.
