Sydney Vital- Pain and Palliative Care Project Seed Funding – Closed

Sydney Vital is pleased to invite applications for its Pain and Palliative Care Seed Funding Award to the value of $25,000. The Sydney Vital Pain and Palliative Care Seed Funding Scheme intends to seed new ideas in pain and palliative care research, with the goal of generating data to a point where external funding may be sought. The ideas to be tested should be (i) new in concept and (ii) distinct from currently or previously funded research. Projects should focus on Translational Cancer Research and should align with Sydney Vital’s goals.

Sydney Vital Travel Awards 2018 – Closed

Sydney Vital invites applications for Travel Awards to the value of $1,500 for domestic travel and $3,000 for international travel. Our aim is to encourage outstanding PhD students, ECRs, researchers and clinicians from within the Sydney Vital network and institutions to present their scientific research progress at national or international conferences.

Submission Guidelines

Applications must be combined in a single PDF file and must be submitted as attachment in an email to [email protected]. Please use the following naming convention:

Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary (HPB) PhD Research Scholarship – CLOSED

Sydney Vital and The Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary (HPB) Unit at Royal North Shore Hospital are offering a full time scholarship for a Doctor of Philsophy (Medicine) student at the University of Sydney commencing 2017 or 2018.

Open to:

1. Applicants must have an unconditional offer of admission for full-time studies in the Doctor of Philophy (Medicine) program at the University of Sydney commencing 2017 or 2018.

2. Applicants must be willing to undertake research in a field of research that includes, but is not limited to:
– Prognostic biomarkers in pancreatic cancer-IHC, proteomics, metabolomics
– Role of pancreatitis in adverse outcomes following pancreatic surgery
– Neo-adjuvant chemotherapy in resectable pancreatic cancer
– Nutrition and quality of life in pancreatic cancer or Immune therapy in pancreatic cancer

3. Applicants must hold a Honours degree (First Class or Second Class Upper) and/or a medical degree recognised in Australia.

4. Applicants must be Australian citizens, Australian permanent residents, New Zealand citizens or international applicants eligible for a visa.

Value: $35,000 per annum
Duration: For up to one year, subject to satisfactory academic performance. The recipient may apply for an extension and this may be available if funds are available.

Sydney Vital Breast Cancer Implementation Research Scholarship – CLOSED

Sydney Vital is proud to offer a unique scholarship opportunity is available for an outstanding PhD scholar to conduct research in the area of breast cancer implementation science. The successful applicant will conduct their research as part of the Breast Cancer Multidisciplinary team at the Mater Hospital, North Sydney and the Northern Sydney Local Health District.

Open to:

1. The scholarship is offered subject to the applicant having an unconditional offer of admission or being currently enrolled in full-time studies in a PhD at the University of Sydney, and be willing to undertake research in the field of breast cancer implementation science.

2. Applicants must hold an Honours degree (First Class or Second Class upper) or a recognised medical degree in a related discipline, or equivalent.

3. Applicants must have previous research experience.

4. Applicants must be Australian citizens, Australian Permanent residents or New Zealand citizens.

Value and Duration: The Scholarship will provide a stipend allowance of $35,000 per annum from the date the successful applicant commences the scholarship until the 31 July 2019, subject to satisfactory academic performance. An extension may be offered by the University should funds become available. The maximum duration of the scholarship (including any extension) will not exceed three years.

Sydney Vital Neuro-Oncology Postgraduate Scholarship – CLOSED

Sydney Vital is proud to offer a unique scholarship opportunity for an outstanding PhD scholar to conduct research in the area of neuro-oncology. The successful applicant will conduct their research as part of the Sydney Vital Neuro-Oncology Centre of Excellence which is based at the Royal North Shore Hospital.

Open to:

1. The scholarship is offered subject to the applicant having an unconditional offer of admission or being currently enrolled in full-time studies in a PhD at the University of Sydney, and be willing to undertake research in the field of neuro-oncology.

2. Applicants must hold an Honours degree (First Class or Second Class upper) or a recognised medical degree in a related discipline, or equivalent.

3. Applicants must have research experience in one of the following areas:
– Genomics
– Bioinformatics
– Immunology
– Inflammation
– Imaging
– Histology

4. Applicants must provide names and contact details of at least two academic referees.

5. Applicants must be Australian citizens, Australian Permanent residents, New Zealand citizens or international applicants eligible for a visa.

Value & Duration: The Scholarship will provide a stipend allowance of $35,000 per annum from the date the successful applicant commences the scholarship until the 31 July 2019, subject to satisfactory academic performance. An extension may be offered by the University should funds become available.
